Tetris heading to Dish Network
For $2.99 a month, you can play traditional Tetris, Marathon Tetris, and Lines Tetris on your Dish Network Satellite TV. In case you're wondering how much Tetris TV you'd have to play to offset the cost of buying a copy of Tetris and a basic Xbox 360 to play it on, we did the math for you: You'd have to subscribe for a little over six years. Or better yet, you could fire up one of those old FTA receivers that had the Tetris game built in.
Satellite TV provider Dish Network, Oberon Media, and the Tetris Company announced a Tetris TV service today that brings the classic casual game into your living room without the aid of a console.
The subscription-based game service provides users with classic Tetris along with Marathon and Lines modes for $2.99 a month. Players use their TV remotes to control the game. Eventually, the service plans to enable competitive tournaments, leader boards, and even prizes to users.
In a statement provided with the press release, Oberon Media's Senior Director of ITV Programming and Service Management Jonathan Boltax said, "The Tetris game is the perfect example of satiating the public's ravenous appetite to play casual games on all platforms, and it's a perfect fit for the iTV platform."
