New "Weather Forcaster" for Viewsat Receivers

With the legal demise of Viewtech Inc, it looks like other groups will be picking up the slack.  A 3rd party group has developed a "Weather Forcaster" ethernet module for many models of Viewsat receivers. The module will allow users to get real time weather forecasts for their local area via the internet right on their FTA STB.  More "interactive" features that utilize the internet connection are expected to be introduced in the future.

Early information is that it will suport the following receivers: Ultra, UltraLite, MaxHD, 9000HD and the Pro.  The Weather Forcaster is expected to begin shipping to end users the first week of March 2010 at around $110 USD.

In phone calls and e-mails with DirecTV and FiOS representatives with several EPL Talk readers, DirecTV and FiOS representatives have confirmed that Fox Soccer Plus will be available. One EPL Talk reader even shared the above screen capture (see above) which shows the FiOS programming guide with Fox Soccer Plus programming on the Setanta Sports channel (1009) where Fox Soccer Plus will launch Monday.
